Showing on Sept. 28, 2011.
Who’s in a better position in love, the wife or the mistress? This makes the kabit more exciting debah? In the first place, bakit nga ba may pumapayag maging kabit?
I got your email?
Carla: Ha?
O sige I’ll read it.
Mario: What I said was, I used to be very fond of you. When you signed up with Regal, I was there. I think I was the first one who wrote a full article on you.
Carla: Yes
Mario: I’d been very supportive of your career from Rosalinda to all others na ginawa mong soaps….basta sa lahat ng ginawa mo sa GMA sinuportahan kita.
Carla: Yes and I’m thankful of that of course.
Mario: No.
Carla: Oo naman.
Mario: No, you never said that. Not once did you acknowledge anything I wrote positive about you.
Carla: No the whole article naman po was very positive. It’s just that you quoted me po well in fact you haven’t interviewed me yet.
Mario: And all the while I’ve been writing positive things about you, but you never acknowledged it or even said ‘thank you’ kahit minsan.
Carla: Opo.
You even went out of your way to find out my email address, you’ve never done that before.
Madali lang, well anyway, the point is not that I’m thankful for all your support Sir, pero nakakagulat lang po. I’m sure anybody would react to anything negative.
Mario: Yun pala eh.
Carla: Opo but I hope Sir you will understand lang that I was reacting because I was quoted in the article.
Mario: Carla, I wrote articles about you based on press releases of GMA-7 not once did you complain.
Carla: Because not any of them were untrue. with this one po kasi..
Mario: Alam mo, kumpara kay Lovi Poe na talagang when you write something about her, she acknowledges it, she thanks you, wala akong masasabi, she has more manners than you.
Carla: Ok, siguro po I think I will just finish this by apologizing. Kung kayo po ay na-offend, in a way, ako din po. I was just reacting because na-misquote po ako. I hope that you will understand me coming from my end po kung bakit ako nag-re-react. It was not my intention to make you feel bad, never po. So sorry po if you feel bad, sorry if you feel I’m not thankful I am po very much thankful for all your support for all the good articles you’ve written about me, maraming salamat po and I’m really sorry if I offended you in any way.
Mario: Okay, but I just wish you would re-read what you’ve written me because you are telling me what to write in my column. You even made a threat against me. Basahin mo ang column ko, ang sabi mo ‘if you are not going to issue an erratum’ which is not the right word. What you want is a retraction, which I will never do because I based it yun sa ano ng Regal, basahin mo nga yung letter mo.
Pero I’m sorry po, I’m sorry.

Is this just a promo for Regal’s latest movie, “My Neighbor’s Wife?” I don’t think so. Why will Regal “sacrifice” Carla Abella just for the promo when Lovi Poe is the more controversial actress? Unless Mother Lily favors Carla the most among the four stars, she can “fabricate” this controversy to create noise on Carla’s image. Carla has always been portrayed as sweet and intellectual, maybe it’s time for her to be daring and unpredictable to make her more exciting. The last spicy thing that she said before the press was when she said that although she and Marian Rivera both came from DLSU, she graduated with honors. But that was forgivable. She was launched in Rosalinda and the rest is history.
Patulan ko ba ang awayang to? Wala lang. I just think that both parties have shortcomings.
1. According to Carla, the things that she supposedly said on Mario B’s column were not hers. Later on, she will find out that those were supposed to be promotional materials from Regal Films. Had Carla called up Mario to discuss about the article, she would have known where Mario’s words came from. Sometimes, it’s better to talk to the person rather than write an email. Emails are subjective unless you write about figures (money, statistics etc) Words that are okay with the sender might not be okay with the receiver.
2. Should Carla be grateful for all the positive write ups that Mario wrote for her in the past. Yes. I think Mario was more hurt than angry because Carla seemed to disregard all the positive write ups that he did for her in the past. But Mario went overboard when he compared Carla with Lovi in terms of who has better manners? The issue is between he and Carla and a single incident of ungratefulness does not mean that Carla has lesser manners than anybody else.
3. I wonder why Mother Lily did not interrupt the press con when it was obvious that the veteran one would not stop until he voiced out his concerns. Unless this is a promo for the movie, then why bother to interrupt the exchange of emotional words?
It wouldn’t surely take long and this feud would end. After all, as they always say, showbiz is just a small industry.
Growing up in the 80’s gave me the advantage of watching “That’s Entertainment” every afternoon. Those were the days when Leah Salonga was still a struggling teenage artist (she is now a world class performer and she will always be remembered as Kim in Ms. Saigon). Who would ever thought that Sheryl Cruz and Romnick Sarmenta would part ways? You thought Aljon Jimenez would end up with Ruffa Gutierrez? He is now happily married to Manilyn Reynes. Ramon Christopher broke Tina Paner’s heart when he left her for Lotlot De Leon. Lotlot and Monching looked good together and they seemed to be always in love until they separated after more than a decade of being husband and wife. Now, the ex-couple is supporting their eldest daughter’s showbiz career. Mind you, Janine Gutierrez is even prettier than Lotlot during the latter’s younger days; I hope this young lady be given a chance in showbiz. Ruffa Gutierrez and Zoren Legaspi’s on-again and off-again relationship ended permanently when Ruffa’s schedule and priorities diverted her out of local showbiz. Now, Zoren has two wonderful kids with Carmina Villaroel who seemed to be very much in love with then Rustom Padilla (now known as Bebe Gandanghari). Aiko Melendez was dubbed as the young Hilda Koronel. Years later, who would have thought that she would become a politician? From being a shy young lady who was an underdog when Aga Muhlach split up with her, she became “palaban” with all the people who “oppressed” her. When ex-husbands Jomari Yllana and Martin Jickain cheated on her, she did not play martyr and she immediately thought of annulling her unproductive marriage. Jennifer Sevilla and Ian Veneracion looked good together. But the there was no off-cam romance between the two of them. (Hey, I still have a huge crush on Ian! Hehehe)
I had a high school classmate who tried showbiz. He also tried “That’s.” Glutathione was not yet existing as a whitening product during the mid-90’s so he was into chemical peeling to whiten his skin. His schooling was also affected by his “That’s” schedule. From what I remember, he belonged to the same group as Gladys Reyes. He was absent every Thursday and I would be glued to “That’s” in the hope that I would see a glimpse of my classmate’s face on TV.The next day at school, I would tell him if I saw him or not. Being a star (no, I don’t use the term “starlet”), he obliged himself to be properly groomed all the time. He changed the way he talked with his classmates and though I found it superficial, I enjoyed having an encounter with a struggling artist. When he was still a “nobody,” he had all the liberty to eat hopia or drink sago’t gulaman at the school canteen. Not anymore when he thought that drinking chocolate was more “susyal” than drinking sago. When asked if he thinks he could make it in showbiz, he confidently said “Yes, kaya yan. Sana nga.” I admire him for his perseverance but not every artist could be another Christopher de Leon, Aga Muhlach or Piolo Pascual. My classmate got some “pambida” roles for some low-budgetted films; he never made it to the top. Still, I admire him for his guts, his passion for the arts and believing in himself.
Jacklyn Jose’s tearful revelation about her daughter’s real condition ended the speculation about Andi Eigenmann’s rumored pregnancy. Yes, the young beauty is on the family way; 18 weeks to be exact. I have to check if it was Good Housekeeping or Smart Parenting (two of my favorite local magazines) that featured Jacklyn and Andi some months back this year. Andi’s room was featured on that magazine and I thought, this young miss is enjoying the hell out her life! Getting married or even having a serious relationship was the farthest thing from Andi’s mind, I thought. (And she looked so attached to Jackly; she seemed to be enjoying her single life!)
I particularly took interest on Andi when she was just a young girl. Why, she was such a doll! If my memory serves me right, she tried acting at a young age and she used Andi Guck as her screen name. Years later, she was launched through a teleserye “Agua Bendita.” She seemed to be focused on her showbiz career minus her (serious) lovelife; never mind her heated exchange of online messages with a fellow actor who was her ex-boyfriend.
Now, it is confirmed that the 21-year old actress is on the family way. I feel what Jacklyn is feeling. Her young daughter will soon become a parent minus a partner who’s supposed to support her (Andi). Her daughter will have to leave showbiz at the peak of her blossoming career. Her daughter’s showbiz fate is uncertain and we don’t know how Andi’s fans will react.
Nevertheless, we should not put Andi down. It’s her life, anyway. She made a mistake and she’s now suffering the consequences of it; that of a possible fall of her showbiz career and that of being a single parent; not that I mean that being a single parent is a sin but the complexities of being a single parent especially for a young lady like Andi.
There is no question that Aga is a good actor but I guess nobody will disagree if I say that Jake Cuenca is excellent on this movie. He portrays the role of the governor’s second son; the first one (Ryan Eigenmann) is illegitimate. Dylan is the lesser evil between Homer (Ryan Eigenmann) and he. Perhaps by nature, he is soft-hearted but he needs to be like his father and half-brother (Homer) to get the former’s approval. He is his father’s bait, his father’s last chance to lord it over in the political arena of their province. Unassuming and young, he questions his father’s decision why he is being asked to run for a vice-mayoralty seat instead of the aggressive Homer. In his father’s mind, he knows that Dylan will make a better political asset than Homer. After all, the people hate them. They need someone new and charming to win the people’s heart. He has a girlfriend (Cedes/Angel Locsin) whom the masa can identify with, nevermind the rumors that she was dancer (perhaps she is even an escort girl). Cedes is the icing on their cake or maybe a deodorizer or an image booster.
In a twist of fate, he meets his fiancee’s ex-lover Emman. His friendship with Emman (Aga Muhlach) starts when the latter saved him from one assassination attempt. He realizes that Emman is smart and his suggestion on how to boost his vice-mayoralty candidacy is considered. Clueless about his fiancee’s past with Emman, he is the one who hired Emman to be Cedes’s dance instructor for the Governor’s Ball.
It is Dylan’s mother who came up with the idea about sponsoring a Governor’s Ball. The family’s image needs some cleansing .Carmi Martin’s life as a rich politician’s wife is touched at the cemetery scene with Cedes. While the two women’s life could have been parallel (Carmi as a poor provinciana got married to a rich politico), their reason for staying with their men is different. Carmi did it for money, Cedes did it for love. How can one decent woman stomach to live with a man she doesn’t love and even be made a whore by that man just to find ways on how to help her man?
Later it is unfolded that the governor and Homer had a plan to assassinate Cedes while she and Dylan would be dancing at the Governor’s Ball. Being young, uncorrupt and so much in love, they knew that losing Cedes could release the evil in Dylan by probably getting back at their political enemies or maybe, Dylan could get the public’s sympathy. Either way, it’s win-win for the family.
But the plan does not materialize because Emman arrives just in time to prevent the sniper (too bad he caught the bullet for Cedes!) The governor shows his true color by pointing the gun at Cedes, their sacrificial lamb, much to Dylan’s shock. It is out of instinct when he catches the bullet for Cedes.) A man in love will do anything for the woman he loves just like what Emman did for Cedes. Dylan dies on the spot while his ladylove is busy crying over the love of her life Emman.
Jake Cuenca did justice to his role as a young man trying to win his father’s affection and his ladylove’s heart. In the name of love, he protected Cedes from anyone who would harm her. Jake is just too perfect for the role, I forgot that for a time, I hated him for that chance encounter incident with ex-gf Roxanne Guinoo at a bar. There is something in his acting that is uniquely his. The intonation, the body language, the depth, the intensity- I wonder if his acting talent has always been there or was it polished at regular acting workshops in ABS-CBN. For a young actor to be pitted along a much veteran and talented actor like Aga Muhlach, Star Cinema made the best decision to include Jake Cuenca in the cast.
This is the best Aga Muhlach film ever. In this film, Aga is so convincing, you will forget that he is Aga Muhlach, the star. In this film, he is just Emman, an ordinary Filipino working as a dancer in Japan. He is a father estranged from his son, a middle-aged guy being stalked by a girl in her mid-20’s, a lover who will sacrifice in the name of love. That confrontation scene with Angel Locsin as Cedes is just too realistic, you will forget that this is just a film.
I am not impressed with Angel’s pole dancing but let’s not focus on that. (Hey, Ciara Sotto is the best pole dancer for me!) I like her best on the scenes where she is not speaking at all. You can feel her pain, her excitement for seeing Emman again and all her kept emotions through the years she and Emman are separated from each other.
Yes, I am writing this article from Dylan’s perspective. Isn’t it obvious that Jake Cuenca earned a fan in me?
Does true love still exist? The latest Nestle’ products commercial is trying to send a message that soulmates do exist and love must be nurtured to keep a relationship intact.
The commercial starts with a young boy captivated by the young girl’s beauty. Unaware of the milk residue on his face, he watches the young girl as she dances. The young girl saw him with the milk residue on his face and points to her own cheek to convey the message “Wipe that off!”
Years later, the girl came to his rescue when he was being beaten by bullies. Then came the teenage years when they were dancing. Then the wedding, starting a family, dining out in their mid-life, the husband taking care of the sick wife in their senior citizen years and then just like de javu, their own granddaughter dancing just like the grandmother at the start of the commercial.
The commercial is touching and it makes me feel good. It brings me back to the time of my childhood innocence when I thought of marrying my first crush at 10 years old. Nestle’ is telling us that their product has always been with us through the years; good economy or bad economy. It is the same product that nourished our great great great grandparents up to us, present generation. It is the product that has become a common commodity through the years. The commercial speaks of family ties, love at first sight, puppy love, true love and eternal love. And hey, I love the female character in that commercial; I’m beginning to appreciate my wavy locks! Lol!
