• Amazing Tawas (Alum)

    April 25, 2009
    Career, Finance & Product

When it comes to proper hygiene, I follow the rules. I brush my teeth at least three times a day, I take a bath in the morning and before retiring at night. I use feminine wash to get rid of unwanted vaginal odour. I use deodorant to prevent body odor and so on. I knew that I follow the rules when it comes to being clean so it upset me when my husband told me that sometimes, he could smell bad odour from my armpit. That constructive criticism made me upset because that was true! I love to eat spicy foods and these foods tend to produce foul-smelling body odours. I notice that every time I eat spicy foods, my underarm smells bad even when I apply deodorant.

My husband suggested alum (tawas) and asked me to stop using deodorant. Being a submissive wife, I followed his advice and went to Mercury Drug to buy alum crystals. After taking a bath that night, I wet the alum crystal and rubbed it gently on my armpit. The next morning, I checked my armpit and it still smelled fresh. So then, I took a bath again and used alum crystal instead of my deodorant. To further check its powers, I ate spicy foods that day. When I went home that night, I inspected my armpit and it still smelled fresh!

I know that deodorants contain alum but I guess that with my active sweat glands on my underarm, the alum concentration is not good enough. Using alum as substitute to deodorant could sound primitive and even barriotic to some but it’s the best weapon that has worked for me to avoid that embarassing underarm odour whenever I eat spicy foods.

  • I’ll Get Used To It

    April 20, 2009
    Wedding & Family Life

Wednesday morning, I had a meeting. I wrote my name on the attendance sheet. When I passed it to the next person sitting, she exclaimed, “Something’s wrong here! You still use your maiden name!”

I realized that I was still using my maiden name to company meetings. I’ve been Iris Dela Cruz for 31 years of my life and now, I have to get used to using Iris Crystal. A new name, a new identity. Perhaps, not even my close relatives would easily identify me if I send them a card using my married name. For a man who change his civil status, nothing will change; the identity is still there. But for a woman, it’s different. Perhaps it’s the same reason why Gloria Arroyo is using Macapagal-Arroyo. Then Loren Legarda instead of Loren Leviste.

Give me six months and I’ll get used to my new name. 😉

  • Sundo Movie Review

    April 6, 2009
    That’s Entertainment

    Main Characters:
    Robin Padilla- as Romano
    Sunshine Dizon- as Louella

    Supporting Characters:
    Rhian Ramos – as Sabel
    Hero Angeles
    Mark Bautista
    Glydel Mercado
    Katrina Halili

    Story:

    Ratings:
    3 out of 5 stars

  • Suzette Nicolas, Victim or Not?

    March 21, 2009
    Life & Love

From the very start of this Subic Rape Case Drama, a lot of opinions were divided. Did Lance Corporal Daniel Smith really rape Suzette Nicolas or “Nicole?”

I spent six years of my adult life in Olongapo City where I worked as an engineer in one of SBMA’s former top company. Olongapo City was notorious for being the “sin city” of the central part of Luzon; the other one was Angeles City in Pampanga. When Subic closed its military base in the early 90’s, it managed to reinvent its image into a money-making industrial zone in the late 90’s.

I’ve never been to Neptune Club and never in my wildest dreams will I try to go there alone. It’s not a wholesome place where you can just sit down, dance and have a drink with your buddies. If I were looking for that kind of entertainment, I would just go to Subic Hard Rock in Olongapo or even in Pier One in Boardwalk. I wonder if Nicole and her company have the slightest idea of what kind of place Neptune is. Nobody must have warned her group that this place s-p-e-l-l-s SEX, alcohol, flirting and unwholesome fun.

Reports said that Nicole was intoxicated at the time that she was dancing with Smith; some said that it was a flirty sexy dancing. We know how alcohol can boost up our libido and the two probably agreed to make out.

It was not the kind of making out that any DECENT woman would ever try; report said that Smith had sex with Nicole at the presence of his companions and the van driver. The question on whether the sex was consensual was put into question. It could be a wild sex with a stranger or it could be a consensual sex at the start– that, only Nicole can answer.

What I can’t understand with Nicole is her American dream. If I were oppressed in a country or in a place or if I were so demoralized by a group of people, what I’m gonna do is to pick up the pieces of my life AWAY from that place or group of people. Obviously, this principle doesn’t work for her because she’s now in the States with her marine lover. Why not UK? Why not Australia? Why not Canada?

Nicole blamed the government for not helping her push through with the case–that I feel for her. But why recant her statement after various sectors showed support to her, the Gabriela group most specifically. How much deal was involved in this for her to leave her lawyers, fly with her lover and accept the PhP100,000 (or more?) to start a new life elsewhere in the US?

If Nicole’s new statement were the real one (Smith didn’t rape her) I would have slapped her in the face, throw mud at her and spit on her face. Hey, if her new statement were the real one, she’s on the risk of putting the REAL RAPE victims at risk. What is its effect on the real victims that we should be supporting?

Suzette Nicolas or Nicole, is she a victim or not? We don’t know. Only time can tell.

  • Designer Bags and Luxurious Lifestyle At This Trying Time?

    March 13, 2009
    That’s Entertainment

I’ve never owned any designer bag.
I’ve never had a luxurious lifestyle.
But does it mean that when a celebrity flaunts his/her designer bags and luxurious lifestyle, he/she is liable to the millions of poor Filipinos who can’t even have a decent meal or a decent shelter? Maybe not.

Being a celebrity is not all roses; they have to endure the long hours of shootings and tapings and they have to adapt to the environment where they’re required to act. I remember starlet Emily Artadi, a former model, suffered from pneumonia because of the long hours she spent in the pool. Who can forget Angel Locsin when a horse kicked her during the filming of Love Me Again? Richard Gutierrez nearly burned his arm during a rehearsal for his TV show, Asero. My point is, what they earn; they just deserve.

Is it an issue if Sharon Cuneta has the latest collection of Hermes bag? It is an issue if she does NOT give back to the society or if she does NOT share her blessings. From what I know, Sharon donates to her favorite charitable institutions and so is Kris Aquino.

I don’t care if Willie Revillame has the grandest and most luxurious yacht for as long as he knows how to give back to the society.

Some people could get so sensitive when they see people flashing their wealth. Ask me, I don’t get affected AS LONG as these show offs know how to share their blessings.

I hate it when they stereotype the rich people as SNOB. I don’t see Tessa Prieto-Valdes that way. I don’t think Lucy Torres-Gomez was brought up that way. And mention Mikey Cojuangco-Jaworski, too.

There are some poor people who are SNOB. I think that being a snob lies in a person’s character whether he/she is rich or poor.

  • Si Hayden at si Vicks Ulit?

    March 12, 2009
    That’s Entertainment

Malamang!

  • Abby Cruz Sa Nakaraang Bb. Pilipinas Pageant

    March 10, 2009
    That’s Entertainment
