I’m still working on my novelette Catching Dragonflies With You—a story about coming of age, nostalgia, and missed chances. Originally, I planned for my next novelette to be enchanting and magical. But lately, I’ve been drawn toward the supernatural, a shift inspired by my curiosity about what really happened to the Cresta Del Mar resort in Bauang, La Union.

Some Facebook posts say the resort shut down in 2003 due to bankruptcy. Since then, the place has been abandoned—and with that, stories of supernatural sightings have started to circulate. This feels surreal to me because I remember visiting Cresta Del Mar back in 1994. It may not have been a five-star resort, but it was clean, decent, and affordable.

I shared a big room with Ate Grace, Jacq, Ate Joy, Heidi, and Cristy. Jacq, Heidi, and I slept on a mattress on the floor, while Ate Grace and Ate Joy shared the bed. But that night, a drunken boardmate stumbled in and passed out on their bed, forcing them to squeeze in with us on the mattress. Cristy ended up moving to another room. The next day, our boardmate had no memory of what happened.

Jacq was the person I was closest to in the boarding house, and we often helped our caretaker grill food. That beach overnight holds a special place in my heart. Even though I’m from Bataan, beach trips were rare for me. I wish I had kept the photos we took back then—before the resort gained its eerie reputation.

Now, I’m beginning to weave that contrast into my next story. It will explore the unsettling shift from warm memories to the strange, haunted present of a once-loved place. The plot is still taking shape, but I want to anchor it in that bittersweet memory: how something once beautiful can turn into a ghost of itself.

  • My Close Encounter with Ricky Davao

    Life & Love

There was a time in my life when I was a huge showbiz fan.
Some of my old colleagues from WPH would probably still remember how much I followed local celebrities. 😂

Living and working near Subic Bay Freeport Zone (SBFZ) had its perks—celebrities would casually roam around the area. It wasn’t unusual to catch glimpses of actors and actresses just going about their day.

One evening, I spotted Carlos Morales across the gym, fully immersed in his workout.
Another time, I had a funny little moment with Sunshine Dizon—we were both in the same store, and we almost reached for the same blouse. Of course, I let go of it. She was shopping, while I was just window shopping. 😂

But the memory that stood out the most involved the late Ricky Davao.
Back then, I hesitated to approach him—not because he was intimidating, but because there was something special, almost sacred, about that moment.

It was around the year 2000 or 2001. I was walking near Time Square Cinema when I passed by a group of people sitting casually on the steps.
In the center of the circle was Ricky Davao, animatedly sharing a story with what I assumed were fellow cast members of the show Oka Tokat. They were laughing and clearly enjoying each other’s company.
I paused for a moment, thinking whether I should say hi, but I chose not to interrupt their joy.

Besides, my phone at the time was, well, “Jurassic.” No cameras. No selfies. No instant proof that I had seen him.

Fast forward to 2025—news of Ricky Davao’s passing brought back that quiet memory.
Although my interests have shifted through the years, moments like that one resurface when life suddenly connects the present to the past.
It’s funny how our memories work. They remain tucked away until something gently tugs them back into the light.

And yes, I was a huge fan of Oka Tokat. I especially loved Jack—Ricky’s character who gave life to the show in ways that still linger in my memory.

Rest in peace, Ricky. Thank you for the stories, both on-screen and in real life.

  • New Release: The Missing Woman: The Disappearance of Mary Ann Gonzalez

    Poems & Stories

Have you ever stumbled upon a news story that haunted you long after the headlines faded? That’s the kind of intrigue that inspired my latest book:
The Missing Woman: The Disappearance of Mary Ann Gonzalez

Set in the fictional town of San Isidro, this suspense novel dives deep into a journalist’s desperate search for truth in a community cloaked in secrets.

When young and beautiful Mary Ann Gonzalez vanishes without a trace, seasoned reporter Jennica Tolentino is assigned to cover what seems like another tragic case. But soon, Jennica finds herself entangled in a web of corruption, fear, and unexpected alliances that threaten not just her career—but her life.

What begins as a simple report turns into an unraveling mystery involving a powerful mayor, a mysterious suspect named Palos, and townspeople too afraid to speak.

    What makes this story different?
This isn’t just a whodunit. The Missing Woman explores the psychology of silence, how power suppresses truth, and how a determined woman dares to confront it all.

    Why I wrote it:
This book is for those who’ve ever felt their voice didn’t matter, and for truth-seekers who believe that even one person asking the right questions can change everything.

    What readers can expect:

    • A strong, flawed, but determined heroine
    • A chilling, small-town mystery
    • Themes of justice, fear, and resilience
    • Poetic storytelling wrapped in gripping suspense

    Now available on Amazon Kindle!

Balanga, now a thriving city in the province of
Bataan, Philippines, officially gained its city status
in December 20, 2000. But long before its urban
transformation, life in Balanga during the 1980s was
marked by simplicity and a strong sense of
    community.

Back then, television was the main source of
    entertainment for most households, bringing
families together each night for local shows and
    news.

One of the most beloved destinations in town was
Joyous Resort, an inland getaway located right in
the heart of Balanga. It was known for its Olympic
size swimming pool and a separate kiddie pool that
drew families, students, and vacationers alike.
Though the resort has since closed, its memory lives
on among locals who grew up enjoying its waters.

Another iconic institution was Bataan Community
    College (BCC)
. Before it evolved into a state
university campus in the 2000s, BCC’s gym served
as a lively venue for basketball games and mini
concerts, where students and residents gathered to
celebrate sports, music, and community spirit.
At the center of everyday life stood the Balanga
Plaza Arcade, the go-to spot for nearly everything—
from beauty parlors and clothing shops to medical
clinics and eateries. It was a one-stop hub that
captured the pulse of the town.

Today, the Galeria Victoria stands in its place, a
symbol of modern progress, yet the charm of the old
arcade still echoes in the memories of those who
    walked its halls.

  • Tragedy Strikes at Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day Festival

    April 28, 2025
    Filipino Culture

On April 26, 2025, Vancouver’s Filipino community gathered to celebrate Lapu Lapu Day, a festival honoring the legendary Datu Lapu-Lapu, the Filipino chieftain who famously defeated the Spanish forces in the Battle of Mactan in 1521. The event, held near Fraser Street and East 43rd Avenue, was a vibrant celebration of Filipino culture, filled with music, food, and lively performances.

What should have been a joyous occasion quickly turned into a scene of horror. A 30-year-old man, later identified as Kai-Ji Adam Lo, drove an SUV into the crowd. This senseless act resulted in the deaths of 11 individuals, including a 5-year-old child—the youngest victim—and left many others seriously injured. The shock and grief from this tragedy reverberated throughout the community.

Witnesses described scenes of chaos and horror as bodies and debris were scattered across the street. This incident occurred shortly after the headline performance by Filipino-American artist apl.de.ap of the Black Eyed Peas, who expressed his heartbreak on social media.

The suspect, Kai-Ji Adam Lo, was quickly apprehended by bystanders and later arrested by the police. He faces multiple charges of second-degree murder. While authorities have ruled out terrorism as a motive, and have found no evidence of political or religious motivations, there has been a concerning amount of speculation surrounding the incident.

I appeal to everyone to avoid jumping to conclusions and fueling speculation that this tragedy was an act of racial hatred. The authorities are conducting a thorough investigation, and we must allow them to determine the true cause behind this devastating event. Speculating about the motives without facts only serves to divide us at a time when we should be uniting in support of the victims and their families.

In the wake of this devastating tragedy, Vancouver’s Mayor Ken Sim and interim Police Chief Steve Rai have expressed their condolences and pledged a thorough investigation into the incident. The Filipino community and the broader Vancouver community have come together to mourn the victims and offer support to the affected families.

As we reflect on this tragedy, I feel nothing but sorrow for the victims and their families. The senseless loss of life is a stark reminder of how fragile peace can be. My thoughts are with the families of the victims, and I stand in solidarity with the Filipino community in Vancouver as they grieve. My deepest sympathy goes to all those affected by this terrible event, and I hope we can move forward with compassion and unity.
